Events and Projects coming up

Coppicing

Next coppicing ~ 12th & 13st March 2016

We held a weekend coppicing session in November 2015   . It went well, and another coppicing weekend is planned for the third weekend in February, 20/02/16 - 21/02/16, aiming to complete the current section. We have planned the dates early and late in the winter as members are often too busy over the Christmas period, and the weather is too unreliable.
We plan to do two or three weekends of coppicing again in the winter 2016-2017. We will post dates here nearer the time.

Coed Panteg work days - 2nd Sunday every month.

We aim to have a regular work days at Coed Panteg on the 2nd weekend each month, but sometimes other commitments get in the way, so please check before coming.

We aim to start at around 10.30am (turn up whenever you feel like it) and we're usually there until about 5.00pm, or until dark - whichever is earlier.
Hot drinks, some lunch things and biscuits will be provided but please feel free to bring things to share. If the weather is nice we may stay and have food around a fire in the evening.

Please contact us to confirm details and times, as sometimes weather or other unforeseen events cause last minute changes to our plans.

Proposed Upcoming work days:

March 13th: - this will be part of a coppicing weekend.

April 10th:- Bramble Clearing

May 8th:- Fencing with Tir Eithin - to be confirmed

June 12th:- Building a Compost Toilet

July 10th:- Preparations for Open day

August 14th:- Open Day

Future workdays may include:

~ scrub clearance in the clearing to keep it open
~ improving the parking area at the top of the track
~ Cutting steps into steep and slippery parts of some paths
~ Preparing level areas for future camping

~ Removing barbed wire from the old field boundary (now at the bottom of the plots, and not needed to keep out livestock)

Courses and Workshops

We are in the process of developing a small selection of courses.

Charcoal Making Course - Complete the process of making local sustainable charcoal from start to finish using our large charcoal kiln, but also find out how to produce small quantities on a back-garden scale using an old oil drum. Dates and price to be confirmed. Please Contact Us for details.

Yurt Making Workshop - We are making inquiries about running a Yurt Making workshop using our coppiced product. Details will be added here as we get them, so check back.

Future plans for courses include Green Woodworking, Pruning Fruit Trees, Building a Compost Toilet for garden or allotment.
Please ask if there are any other skills or crafts you'd like us to consider

Open Day

We plan to hold an Open Day on Sunday August 14th instead of our usual work day. This is your chance to have a good look around Coed Panteg, and meet some of the members. Come prepared for mud!
~ There will be a barbecue, using our own charcoal made on site during previous Charcoal Making courses, so please bring with you anything you'd like to cook.
~ We will arrange a guided walk around Coed Panteg to look more closely at the biodiversity, coppiced areas, new woodland and more.
~ Tea, coffee, soft drinks and (probably) cakes will be available.
~ You can also check out our new Compost Toilet!

Barn Building

Thanks to a grant secured by Lucy, we had had the track extended to the bottom of the meadow in Feb 2012. As well as improving access to get wood and produce out of the woodland, this will also enable us to get materials down to the meadow to build the long awaited barn. We hope it will provide storage for basic tools and equipment, a kitchen area for work days and weekends, and an area to run small courses or workshops whatever the weather.

We are now looking at funding options for building the barn. We will start raising interest from volunteers to help build it nearer the time.

As we continue through the process we will share our plans and progress here, so watch this space...
